As followers of my twitter may already know, I've been having some unfortunate luck with my Macbook recently. Suddenly and out of the blue my hard drive crashed––nothing was backed up. This has meant a loss of not only journals, programs, essays, and lists but also of my giant tome like folder marked "inspiration".

With this loss and with the start of what looks to be a very promising semester, I'm going to take a little break from blogging. I want my semester and the upcoming fall to have my absolute full attention.

When I stumbled across these backstage images of John Galliano's Spring 2011 Menswear a couple days ago, my heart just kinda skipped. Photos like these that remind why I love fashion as much as I do. The amount of story and life in such a seemingly simple and superficial thing as clothes (and for that matter hair, make-up, accessories, body art, etc as well) is absolutely astounding!

A couple weekends ago my friend Steve came to visit me! We didn't do many incredibly exciting things, nor even talk about blogs as much as I had anticipated (seeing as he's my only in-real-life blog friend) but we still managed to have a lot of fun...or I did, anyway. Hopefully Steve did too! These are the only pictures documenting our weekend, which is a shame because I thought there were many beautiful and lovely moments.

I can't give Steve's blog, The End Mark, enough praise. I'm continually inspired by how honest his posts are. It's like flipping through a little flipbook of diary entries. But rather than reading a snoozefest, we're instead treated to moments of quiet hilarity and insight.

If I ever decided I wanted to get married I think I'd wear something similar to this. It just looks like it's made to move, dance, and adventure in. Plus it looks pretty badass, which is how I'd wanna look on my wedding day.

I'm pretty sure I need this in a less matronly color – like black. Y'know...for everyday wear.

I've basically found a solution to make the summer heat bearable – the Double U-Neck Dress. Even though it's on the shorter side, I've found it to be the most versatile and comfortable thing I've ever owned. I even have a (very simple) DIY planned. And because I wear this dress at least twice a week I think some sort of remix post is in order.

In other news I've had probably the best, most productive couple of days in a long while. Yesterday I went apartment hunting and found an absolutely drool worthy apartment. I can't wait to move! Today's highlights included pizza for breakfast, sewing projects, scheduling some posts for fall, jumping on my bed and dancing to pop music, finding my favorite tea, burritos, and outfit photos. Hopefully this surge of energy and motivation keeps up!

ps. oh yea! I got my nose pierced (again! but this time it's staying put!)

Sorry for the over week long absence. It's been hot. Too hot to move. I've been sweating rivers and oceans it seems.

I think things might be a little sparse here on the old blog for awhile until this heat wave lifts and I can manage more than a tshirt and cutoffs. I'll still be tweeting and tumbling though!

Picture Me Rollin'

For this set of photos I decided to visit a place I practically live in--my local Salvation Army. I'm still planning to do a shopping guide for thrift stores but this wasn't the time as I wasn't in my usual, focused thrift mode. I did however manage to find a lovely pair of earrings, which I'm so excited to share!

Most outfits of mine are approximately 90% thrifted. Oddly though, this is not one of them. The accessories/shoes are all thrifted, the shirt is vintage and a gift from my housemate Amber, and the shorts were jeans by Levi's that I ordered online somewhere.

Summer jams are very important (at least for me!) because they help form the mood of your summer--kinda like the soundtrack to a movie. Usually my summer jams tend to be either hip hop songs or stoner/punk/noise garage rock type stuff. Usually hip hop though.

It's finally come. The time to admit that it's actually too hot for sweaters. I was pretty sweltering in this getup but I felt pretty dang awesome so I suffered just a smidge. The longer sleeves turned out to be pretty useful though, saving me from pricks and such while traversing the overgrown pathways...so that works out kinda even, right?

My legs on the other hand suffered a much worse fate. I have soo many scratches and bruises. But I'm used to this. People always ask, with such concerned faces, "What happened to your legs?!" My answer, always: summer.

So I know I promised a picture of my bike, but I haven't yet had time to paint as I've been riding it every chance I get. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so perhaps I'll paint it tonight and let it dry in the garage.

In other news some changes are due to this blog. I'm currently in the process of trying to, at the very least, redesign my header. And with the help of my friend Jeff, hopefully this will be an easy process.

Speaking of Jeff, he's graciously agreed to be the blog's official photographer. Yay! So you can expect more interesting outfit photos and locations. It's a collaboration that I'm very excited about.

Although summer's almost in full swing it thankfully isn't too hot to get dressed without sweating on and through everything. Hence I'm still trying to get away with some layers. The summer time for me is all about staying comfortable and adventure ready. The pockets on this sturdy yet breathable jacket make it a nice thing to have when night time bike rides are taking place. It allows me to carry summer essentials when I don't want/need a purse getting in the way of my fun.

My friend Matt said he has an awesome backpack to give me, which I hope will be perfect for when it's too hot even for my light jackets.

Tuesday I had a really great thrift haul! When I went my intent was to look for jeans to turn into cutoffs and also to take some pictures for a post I'm planning about how to have a great thrifting trip. I didn't end up getting the pictures though cause I got super distracted by all the great things I found:

* 2 pairs of light colored jeans for cutoffs

* A silk olive button up (always, always welcome in my closet)

* The perfect twirly floral skirt

* A dark pair of mary jane wedges

* A sheer polka dot s/s button up

* The perfect seafoam colored thermal

* A lightweight breezy dress to wear when it's too hot to wear clothes

* A striped square neck top

* An elastic cream and mahogany belt

* A pair of snakeskin flats for my best friend

* A pair of all black chucks for another best friend

And last, but not least of all...a bike! It's a mountain/racing bike, which is exactly what I've been looking for. I want a bike like this because the roads in Ypsi are not the most well maintained so I wanted something that could handle that and all my adventuring. I don't have a picture of it yet cause I've got some painting to do.

But to top it all off when my friends came to pick me and my bike up they had pizza and breadsticks! It was probably one of my best thrifting days ever.

No Letting Go

So I'm back from my trip and back on the grind! I'll have to do a recap post next time I'm afraid as one of my biggest blogging nightmares came true...I forgot to bring the charger for my DSLR! As such this is basically the only picture I got. I also brought my film camera but I've never had photos developed from it, so I'm not entirely sure they'll turn out. Tomorrow will tell!

These next few days (the duration is kind of hazy) I'm going to be taking a trip up north to Saginaw Bay. It's not really a road trip as it's only a three hour drive, but we'll be staying in a cabin/cottage (again details are hazy). It's only semi planned and hence very exciting! Packing is going to be a doozy.

It's starting to become unbearably hot already and it's only May! I don't know if I'm going to be able to function if it gets any hotter. Which would put me in a sad state of affairs because I'm learning/planning on doing some exciting things this summer.

I've already started guitar lessons and should be starting sewing lessons soon. I also plan to be braver riding my bike in the city so I can (hopefully) discover some gems (people or places) around Ypsilanti. I think that on days when it's just to hot to move I'll catch up on my reading. Anyone have any good books I should give a looksies?

So summer weather and fun is finally here. All my friends are home from school and I couldn't be happier. Barbecues have been underway (though for some reason we never really get started till after the sunset, so unfortunately no pictures) and I've been getting weekends off from work! And probably best of all I finally have an editing program again! Yay! This means a return of outfit photos!

Ahh! Sorry I've been so nonexistent. Packing and moving and picking paint colors (so stressful when you have absolutely no idea what color you want) and painting have taken over my life. This outfit is from awhile ago when it was still warm, I just never got around to posting it. But as I'm done with school for the semester I have tons of time for posting!

I don't think I've yet mentioned this lovely hat. I have a larger than average sized head (not even counting my hair) so it's often difficult for me to find great hats. But I lucked out one day when I was trying to thrift a Super Nintendo. I unfortunately didn't come home with a SNES, but it was still a successful thrifting trip seeing as I walked away with this bad boy.

Finally I have those swimsuit pictures. This isn't at all the type of suit I was looking for but when I saw that beautiful 90s flower print I thought...I might as well check it out. And thank god I did, because I think it might be safe to say I'm in love. According to Cosmo or Glamour or whatever it's probably not the type of suit for my shape, but seriously...who cares? Not me! Sure, maybe it makes me look a little "bottom heavy" but it also makes me feel super awesome and that is more important.

Not my usual style, but all of these polka dotted things (shirt too!) were lying in a pile together...so I said why the heck not and threw it together with my favorite shorts. And on my toesies are my favorite pair of shoes in the world but the zippers on both boots are kind of breathing their last breath. The area near the toes is starting to crack too so I'm getting as much wear and love out of them while I can.

Wanna feel my heartbeat heightened

A few days last week it was actually warm enough to be sans tights! It was so nice to be able to feel the air on my gams. For some reason the minute the weather starts to perk up I have a penchant for wearing white separates. Every year without fail I don white on white outfits. But I think white works very well with my skin tone so I'm not complaining.

Oh man what a perfect outfit. That coat! Those boots! That Chanel! (I will seriously own a Chanel handbag by this time next year, besides a perfect white tshirt and a great fitting pair of blue jeans the only basic any girl really need is a Chanel quilted purse.) If I could go back and do fall and winter again, this is what I'd be wearing approximately...everyday. Actually, I've just decided. I wish it were fall. I can't wait till the weather starts to cool down again...just joshing, haha. But in all seriousness...I do love this coat.

Can't Tell'em Nothin'

Can't Go Wrong

A void in my wardrobe has been filled. It's hard to deny the greatness of hoodies. They're so warm and perfect for throwing on when summer evenings start to get a bit chilly. They pack easy, they're convenient, etc. I mean, this list could go on. But I've always found them a bit...drab. Most times they just don't fit with what I'm wearing and cardigans never really did it for me. Enter: poncho. The only fallback? No pockets. However not a big deal because look how cool Clint Eastwood looks:

I've been looking all over and scouring thrift stores for a white or cream spring/summer dress. Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of perfectly good white spring/summer dresses. But perfectly good doesn't do in this instance. I need for it to conjure up images of grassy fields and flowered hills. I need for it to be made for lazy little picnics in northern Michigan and laying in the sun (with proper sunscreen of course). It has to be able to withstand days of fireworks and long car travels to Michigan landmarks and delicious sandwiches and bike riding and garage sale-ing and going to shows and rainy days and park days and all kinds of hot weather. Basically what I'm getting at is that it has to be able to withstand some major frolicking because oh man do I plan to frolic this summer.

I think I've found that dress. Unfortunately it's waaay out of my price range. Time to break out (and learn how to use!) the sewing machine.

I so wish there were a Zara in Michigan. If so I'd definitely be wearing some of these little numbers while out exploring as many local and maybe not so local haunts taking pretty pictures and recording neat videos! Hopefully I'll be able to thrift similar pieces.

Also be sure to totally check out Broken Bells. It's a collaboration between Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and James Mercer from The Shins. They collaborated before for the Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse/David Lynch project Dark Night of The Soul. The video for The High Road is pretty awesome.

These two things have really kicked me into my "absolutely, hands down, no going back ready for
warmer weather" mode.

My best friend Jessica is on her spring break right now so she came to visit me today. She helped me clean out my closet then we took pictures, had lunch at NYPD (their white cheese pizza is the BEST), and did a little thrifting. (Hey, there's room for more sweet stuff now!) Earth has lost a lot of great artists recently.

Mark Linkous was the musician behind Sparklehorse and the man who helped me accept and love little old weird me as much as I do today. It's from one of his songs that I got the title of my blog. It's sad to think that I won't ever get to see the magic of a live show or hear another new song with him at the helm.

This is what I wore today while I drooled over interiors. I'm moving into a sweet house at the end of the semester with some new friends who are "creative types". And they're all vegan/vegetarians too! I'm soo excited. I can't wait to finally paint/decorate my room the way I want! I also went to Barnes & Noble to try and pick up the new issue of Lula, but alas it was not there yet. So instead I scooped up issue 31 of Russh.

These are some serious inspirations for my future room. I unfortunately don't know where any of them are from except the first, which is from Apartment Therapy aka my new obsession.

I really need to work on my blog face. And poses too. I'm terribly unphotogenic and have two basic faces: a weird smile and a blank stare...and I'm not talking a sweet I'm-too-cool-for-school stare either. I'm talking blank as in, "Hello? Knock, knock. Hello? Anybody home?" kind of thing. It's sometimes also known as the opposite of cool. I don't know how other bloggers manage to pull it off. And don't even get me started on the posing.

I spent today learning more about my camera and about photoshop, hence the overload of pictures. Sorry!

Weird blank stare I was talking about...

Overall though I'm happy. Today was such a learning process. My two favorite things I learned today were how to tie a bow tie and how to "photoshop items out". I don't know the actual term for that. Maybe that's for tomorrow!

Today I received a surprise phone call from my best friend Konnor. He goes to school in Iowa and so I don't get to see or talk to him much. He doesn't have a facebook and isn't really a talk on the phone kind of person but today he decided he was! I got to fill him in on all the little details that have been happening in my life since the last time we talked. And he's coming home for spring break at the end of March. I can't wait!

ps. You may recognize that skirt from somewhere...maybe in two separate posts below. I just couldn't help myself. A great purchase but one that means my wallet is definitely going to stay closed for awhile.

My room is a total mess right now but I'll spare you the visual evidence. I need sooo bad to clean it. So to get in the mood I'm going to fancy up my hair and put on something ridiculous. Then if all goes well, I'll get to work! I'm also going to put Sam Cooke's Portrait of a Legend on shuffle. I always listen to either Sam Cooke or Fugiya & Miyagi when I need serious motivation.

My bag finally came! I really couldn't be happier with it. It fits all my essentials AND my camera. It was a slightly involved process getting it though. It had to be directly signed by me. Problem is I'm always in class when the Fed-Ex truck comes. Thankfully the best Fed-Ex driver ever delivers in my area and she agreed to meet me on campus during her route there.

ps. I promise better pictures of my boyy later.

pps. The pose in pictures 2 & 3 has (unfortunately?) become my default pose now because it shows off my tattoo...at least when I'm wearing shorter sleeves.

Recent thrifts

These are some of my recent thrifts. Shopping with a list is so much easier. In total, I think I spent a little less than $20. That's $20 for six items I can already see will fit into my wardrobe so well. I don't think I could be happier with my purchases.

Another recent purchase that I couldn't be happier with is the skirt below. Usually I loathe wearing skirts because they're uncomfortable but this was $3 on clearance so it was difficult to say no to. And let me tell you, this was a seriously, seriously supreme purchase. I have literally worn it for a week straight.

This has been such a great week for me with the exception of two rolls of film coming out completely blank. Because it was expired film I knew this was a possibility, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. Unfortunately I didn't use any of my other cameras to take pictures this week so I have no photographic documentation of my week. Oh well, tomorrow's a new start!

An Education

I recently saw An Education. It was a great movie. I think I liked the way it was shot the most. And also the costumes were phenomenal. I hope to incorporate some of the elements from Jenny's wardrobe into some of my outfits. I already own many items similar to this so I think it'll be a snap.

Lists work very well for me. They help me organize my very scattered thoughts. So instead of having all these thoughts swimming around in the tiny fish bowl that is my brain, I write them down and give them the breadth of many pages.

Hopefully I'll be able to thrift/make most of those. I think all of these items will give the military green/black/brown utilitarian like pieces in my wardrobe a nice Spring lift.

Traveling

This is the outfit I'd prefer to wear while traveling to Albion (aka the LBN) tomorrow but with the inches of snow on the ground I decided to wear it today. Tomorrow I'll wear something a bit more practical.

I'd also hoped that my Boyy bag would have arrived in time for my trip, but it seems all my wishes have come to nothing. Oh well, maybe it'll be waiting for me when I get back.

This song called All the Boys by The Romany Rye always reminds me of traveling, especially across state lines, though I'm doing none of that soon.

This week has been a bit unproductive for me. I haven't yet accomplished as much as I hoped I would. Getting things done at a reasonable rate is always a struggle for me. However one of the things I wanted to work on is taking more pictures. And not just taking more pictures in general, but getting to know my cameras really well and taking quality pictures that I'm happy with. And also maybe experimenting with it a bit. Lucky for me I'm going to visit my best friend Jessica this weekend for her birthday so I think there will be ample opportunity.

Feel: Archie Grand notebooks. I love mine so much. I've been sketching and writing and remembering so many great ideas. I first heard about them from a contest through Rackk and Ruin.

Hear: Samamidon. A folk musician who re-imagines traditional folk songs. He has a new album coming in

March called I See The Sign from Bedroom Community.

Smell: Miss Dior Chérie. I recently got a tiny sample bottle of this from Sephora because of my beauty insider points. It's a nice change of pace from my usual ck one.

Taste: Chocolate Chip Cookies. I bought packaged cookie dough in attempt to have a snack food on hand that I would be too lazy to make and would hence not eat in three sittings...it turns out I'm not too lazy to make them. Win? I haven't decided yet. This week I also tasted macarons for the first time but more on that later.

See: Things with my brand new macro filters kit! They just came in the mail yesterday so I have only had a chance to take a few shots but I'm so excited to take more.

ps. I'm not sure if this is a format I'll keep using. I like the idea of doing some sort of weekly round up, but the five senses thing is a bit difficult to work with.

Good Hair

I've made an appointment to get my hair done next week. I've never done anything drastic with my hair so I'm quite nervous. I'm currently in the process of growing my hair long so whatever changes that are made next week are with longer hair in mind. I'm getting the ever so slightest trim, white lowlights like James Iha, and possibly (hopefully) bangs. It's harder for a curly like me to rock bangs, at least if they're curly, but I want to try.

That's me up there. Hard at work...trying to recoup the money I spent on my keenly awaited new bag below. It's the most money I've ever spent on something that is not my computer. And though I know I'll love this bag I'm not eager or particularly willing to spend that much again. On another note. This is a start. A brand new start. I hope it goes well.
